FYI will provide Santa Clarita Valley's transition age foster youth (age 16 to 24) with necessary services, support and resources to make sure they can access educational opportunities and reach their goals.
Our services include:
Working with high school counselors to identify foster youth and advise them of their opportunities for higher education.
Assisting youth without a high school diploma to complete a high school equivalency program.
Equipping foster parents to guide and support their foster youth as they transition to adulthood.
Assisting youth with completing and submitting college applications and FAFSA (financial aid) forms and securing financial aid.
Educating foster youth on the benefits of staying in the foster care system through age 21.
Helping foster youth secure housing if they do not have the option of staying with a foster family.
Connecting foster youth to local employers for part-time employment to help with expenses incurred while pursuing education.
Providing connections with caring adults who will support and encourage youth to persevere.
Providing financial assistance with transportation between home, school and workplace.
Teaching basic life skills such as budgeting, healthy living, and resume and interview preparation.
Assisting with the college transfer process for youth pursuing a Bachelor’s degree.
